Why Do You Need to Share Access to Google Ads?
To begin with, let’s find out why you may need to grant access to Google Ads. Based on our experience, we have defined the next reasons:
- Collaboration:
you may need to grant access to your product managers or other team members to give them valuable insights into the campaigns performance; - Outsourcing:
you may need to share access with a digital marketing agency or an individual PPC expert to manage your PPC campaigns or just audit them; - Training:
you may need to give access to your team members to introduce them to the platform and show them how it works in practice.
These are just a few of the reasons we have encountered. However, this list can be expanded based on business needs.

What Access Levels Do Google Ads Have?
So, we have already talked about the reasons for access sharing. And now, it’s time to dive deeper and talk about the access levels Google Ads has.
Let’s imagine the situation when you want to grant access to one of your team members to find some info concerning the advertising results. You know that this person is a highly qualified specialist in their sphere. However, are you sure of their Google Ads knowledge? Wouldn’t they break something in the account if you give them management access?
The same questions can be asked if you want to grant full access to a PPC specialist. Do you trust them enough to give all the account permissions?
If you are wondering the same things, stop doing it! Google has got everything covered. To simplify the life of its users, Google invented the system of access levels. Let’s take a closer look at it.
Google Ads has five access levels:
- Administrative
this is the level that has maximum authority. It allows users to manage everything within the account, including adding and removing users; - Standard
this level has less authority in comparison with the Administrative. Nonetheless, it still allows users to create, edit and remove the campaigns. However, it doesn’t allow adding or removing other users and has some more restrictions; - Read-only
this level allows users to only view campaigns and reports; - Billing
this level allows users to only view and edit billing information/reports; - Email-only
this level allows users to receive email notifications about the campaign performance but doesn’t provide access to the account itself.
As you can see, there is a wide range of accesses you can grant to the user. And the only thing you need to do is to decide which one is the most suitable for your needs.
How to Share Access to Google Ads?
Have already decided whom you want to grant access? If yes, then it’s time to see how to share a Google Ads account in practice.
There are two methods of sharing a Google Ads account. Both of them are quite simple. However, they have some differences concerning access levels. So, let’s take a closer look at them.
The first method is the easiest one. However, it automatically provides only one type of access – managing. Nonetheless, if you are sure that you need to grant someone managing access, you can share Google Ads in no time just by following the next steps:
- Log in to your Google Ads account;
- In the top right corner, click on the Help button and find your Customer ID;

3. Copy it and send it to the user you want to share access to;
When the user receives your Customer ID, he should link to your account by following the next steps:
- Log in to his Google Ads account;
- Go to the Google Manager Account home screen;
- Go to the Accounts section and click on the blue plus button;

4. From the drop-down menu, chose Link existing account;

5. After that, enter your Customer ID and send the linking request;

As soon as the request is sent, you will receive an email notification that someone wants to link to your Google Ads account. And the only thing you need to do is to accept the request by clicking on the “Accept Request” button.

That is all. Simple process, doesn’t it? Basically, all you have to do is to send your Customer ID to the user you want to grant access to and afterward accept his invitation.
However, what should you do if you want to grant read-only or email-only access? How can you provide such access levels?
There is one answer to these questions. And it sounds like providing access by following the second method. If you want to give users limited access, you should follow the next steps:
- Log in to your Google Ads account;
- In the top right corner, click on Tools and Settings;
- Find the Setup column and click on Access and security;

4. Click on the blue plus button;

5. Fill out the email field, choose the access level you want to grant to the user, and send the invitation.

After that, the user receives an email invitation and, once accepted, will have access to your account.

As you can see, sharing a Google Ads account is a quick and easy process that doesn’t require advanced technical skills.
